Linear Editing

Linear editing is an old process that editors would have to go through to edit a video. In linear editing the editors would have to start from the beginning of the sequence and work their way through to the end. This meant they didn’t have the freedom to edit different parts of the sequence in any order they like, like in nonlinear editing. Instead, they had to edit the footage in order. in non-linear editing a cut would be a literal cut where u cut the tape of the footage. You would then have to glue the tape u cut to another tape that you would want to be next. This would create a jump cut if the shots where both different. If you needed to cut out apart from the tape when you finished, you would have to do the same cut and glue to fix the parts together. This may have been a problem for movies as their final product usually meant they had long tapes, so they had to carefully cut each part to join them together.
