Match cut
The match cut can be used to show the metaphorical relationship between two things within the shot, this can also be used to time jump from one location to another location in a clean cut that matches, the subject or object and the cut is the matched in the same framing as the new scene. A great use of this technique used within a film can be seen in baby driver this match cut is used to jump to time jump to the the location, however its also has deeper meaning showing the object in the frame of the shot car being shown the next shot we see the car again however its being destroyed, this is a clean match cut is used. To show the story of the car as well as being used a a time jump, this gives the audience all the information they needed to know in the scene.
I really do believe that this is one of the best match cuts i have scene used within a film and was a great technique used to tell the story as well as it being a great pacing technique that adds a time jump that adds a fresh visual look.
A match cut can happen by having the shot match a action or composition within the following shot this is different to match on action as there still a change within either the background scene location, or what's in the foreground. The cut has a jumpcut feel that what actually confuses many people accidently seeing the cut as a jumpcut however the uses is very different.
Match cuts don't always have to be visual as there is also verbal match cut.
This is matching the following sound with a cut within a following shot. That is placed after the cut.
