The Purpose Of Editing

The purpose of editing is to be able to take your audience and viewer on a journey. They do this by the use of storytelling and creating a narrative for the product. They use different pacing's to engage the audience and make the audience feel different emotions through pace and storytelling when watching different scenes. The different cuts between the pacing is what creates the emotion and tension.

Editing is important as it takes the different pieces of footage and puts them together to create a story they do this through different techniques like cutting and doing seamless transitions that is done discreetly so the audience does not see the cuts only when the editor needs them to. A example of the cuts used in editing can be j-cuts l-cuts jump cuts. Transitions are used to show a different scene is happening to the audience this is important so the audience is never confused.

The purpose of editing is to combine shots into sequences this turns the footage into a final product. This is done by cutting the clips together and putting them into sequence. the purpose of editing can also be used for the development of drama. It dose this through showing different storylines and narratives that show the actors develop as the continue through the story. This is known as character development.

The purpose of editing is also used to follow the action that is taking place in a scene it dose this by cutting between the different shots in a scene to follow the action in the sequence. Such as any action in a action movie usually has different angles of the same scene. The editor will cut between all of the different angles of the same shot to create intensity for the scene.
